If strabismus surgery is not an option, prismatic glasses may offer an alternative solution for diplopia caused by misaligned eyes.
By changing the direction of light, the prism shifts the second image allowing the brain to fuse both images into one which can eliminate double vision and enhance depth perception.
Ground-in prisms may affect the weight and thickness of the lens but are not generally visible whereas press-on prisms have visible lines/ridges. Either type of prism can cause image degradation or blurry vision.
There are other advantages and disadvantages to prism glasses and they may not be an optimal solution for everyone, especially if the eye misalignment is unstable.
Dr. Shin can discuss your condition and help determine whether prism glasses can help improve your visual function.
